California Teachers Association Endorses Bryan Caforio

Condemns Steve Knight for Doubling Down on Abolishing the Department of Education

Santa Clarita, Calif. – Today, Bryan Caforio, candidate in California’s 25th Congressional District, is proud to receive the endorsement of the California Teacher’s Association (CTA) and joins them in calling Rep. Steve Knight’s anti-education, anti-student voting record misguided and wrong for the families of the 25th Congressional District.

“Knight voted to cut funding for California colleges in the UC and Cal State systems, supported school vouchers, which would cripple public school funding, voted for a budget that cut Pell Grants, wants to eliminate the Department of Education, and even voted against children being guaranteed free drinking water in schools,” said CTA President Eric Heins. “Bryan Caforio, on the other hand, will go to Washington and fight for students, parents, and educators. That’s why Bryan Caforio is the clear choice to represent pro-education families in California’s 25th Congressional District.”

The California Teachers Association is comprised of the educators and workers who are responsible for helping shape and promote the futures of young Californians. In their mission to advance free, quality education for all California children, the CTA strives to ensure educators have the resources they need to advance the lives of the leaders of tomorrow.

“I’m incredibly grateful to receive the endorsement of the California Teacher’s Association,” said Caforio. “I was lucky enough to not only be raised by two public school teachers, but also to have had so many great teachers throughout my public school education, up through UCLA. Every single one of those educators played an important role in my life, and it is why the education of our children is a very personal issue for me. I will fight for fully funding school budgets, so teachers have the resources they need to help our children succeed, and I will to make college more affordable, so the future families of America aren’t burdened with debt and can pursue the American Dream. ”

Caforio was born and raised in Southern California by two public school teachers, attended UCLA and Yale Law School, worked for a United States federal judge, and practices as an attorney taking on some of the world’s biggest banks. Bryan lives in Santa Clarita with his wife Lisa, who serves as a Deputy City Attorney at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

The 25th District covers northern Los Angeles County and part of Ventura County including the Antelope Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, and Simi Valley. President Obama won the district in 2008, and experts consider this race a toss-up . Last year Democratic registration eclipsed Republican registration, and the district is now majority-minority. National Republicans list Congressman Knight as one of their most vulnerable incumbents.
