Bryan Caforio Appoints Santa Clarita’s Natalie Fortman For Electoral College
College of the Canyons Student Shares Caforio’s Commitment to Fighting for Women’s Rights
Santa Clarita, Calif. – Today, Bryan Caforio, Congressional candidate for California’s 25th District, announced that he selected Natalie Fortman for the Electoral College. Under California law, the 53 Democratic Congressional candidates with the largest number of votes in the 2016 June Primary each appoint one Democrat to the Electoral College.
The United States Electoral College is the institution that elects the President and Vice President of the United States every four years. Citizens of the United States do not directly elect the President or the Vice President; instead, they elect representatives called “electors.”
“I am honored Bryan Caforio appointed me as his Presidential Elector,” said Fortman. “Since I started volunteering with the campaign, Bryan has impressed me with his commitment to fighting for many of the issues I firmly believe in, such as equal pay for equal work, allowing a woman to make her own healthcare decisions, protecting the environment, and supporting and expanding Social Security and Medicare.”
Natalie Fortman is a 20-year-old sophomore at College of the Canyons in Valencia, California. She plans to transfer to UC Davis to get her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Policy Analysis and become an Environmental Lawyer. She is passionate about gender equality, women’s health issues, and hopes to promote social and political justice for all.
“Natalie Fortman is one of the best and brightest of her generation,” said Caforio. “Natalie not only talks about positive social change, but is willing to work and sacrifice for it. I’m dedicated to working with women like Natalie who will join me in standing up to career Washington politicians, like Steve Knight, who are tone-deaf to the rights of women. I will fight to pass equal pay for equal work, require employers to provide paid family leave, allow women to make their own healthcare decisions, and proudly stand with Planned Parenthood as it continues to serve thousands of women in our community with lifesaving medical services.”
The Electoral College will meet on Monday, December 19, 2016 in State Capitols throughout the nation to elect Hillary Clinton as our 45th President. In California, the Electors will meet at 2:00 p.m. in the Assembly Chamber in Sacramento.
Caforio was born and raised in Southern California by two public school teachers, attended UCLA and Yale Law School, worked for a United States federal judge, and practices as an attorney taking on some of the world’s biggest banks. Bryan lives in Santa Clarita with his wife Lisa, who serves as a Deputy City Attorney at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
The 25th District covers northern Los Angeles County and part of Ventura County including the Antelope Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, and Simi Valley. President Obama won the district in 2008, and experts consider this race a toss-up . Last year Democratic registration eclipsed Republican registration, and the district is now majority-minority. National Republicans list Congressman Knight as one of their most vulnerable incumbents.
