Women’s Rights Advocate Sandra Fluke Endorses Bryan Caforio

Denounces Steve Knight as Wrong for Women of the 25th Congressional District

Santa Clarita, Calif. – Today Bryan Caforio, congressional candidate for California’s 25th District, received the endorsement of Sandra Fluke, a nationally recognized women’s rights advocate from California.

Fluke came to national attention in 2012 when she testified before members of Congress regarding comprehensive insurance coverage for birth control. She then took on Rush Limbaugh and other conservative commentators when they made personal and sexist attacks against her. Sandra graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center as a Public Interest Law Scholar.

“I have devoted my career to public interest advocacy for numerous causes, including reproductive justice, and I support Bryan Caforio because he will stand with women and defend our right to make our own health care decisions,” said Fluke. “Throughout his career, Caforio’s opponent Rep. Steve Knight has clearly demonstrated his agenda to restrict women’s reproductive rights. He has attempted to deny millions of women health care and cancer screenings by voting to defund Planned Parenthood, co-sponsored legislation that would allow male employers the right to fire an unmarried female employee if she became pregnant, and boasts that he is opposed to abortion, even in the cases of rape, incest or the life of the woman. Steve Knight is wrong for women. Vote for Bryan Caforio on November 8.”

“Sandra Fluke distinguished herself on the national stage fighting for women’s reproductive rights and gender equality and I couldn’t be more honored to earn her endorsement,” said Caforio.  “Sandra is correct, Steve Knight is wrong for the women of the 25th Congressional District. In Congress, I will protect a woman’s right to choose, fight for equal pay for equal work, and stand up for Planned Parenthood.”

Caforio was born and raised in Southern California by two public school teachers, attended UCLA and Yale Law School, worked for a United States federal judge, and practices as an attorney taking on some of the world’s biggest banks. Bryan lives in Santa Clarita with his wife Lisa, who serves as a Deputy City Attorney at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

The 25th District covers northern Los Angeles County and part of Ventura County including the Antelope Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, and Simi Valley. President Obama won the district in 2008, and experts consider this race a toss-up . Last year Democratic registration eclipsed Republican registration, and the district is now majority-minority. National Republicans list Congressman Knight as one of their most vulnerable incumbents.
